Pascale Archambault

BIO

Pascale Archambault now lives and works in L'Avenir. She composes her works using various materials such as stone, wood, steel or bronze. Archambault is attached to the human representation of which she is able to render brilliantly the strength and the sensibility. Between 1992 and 2013, she exhibited her works in several recognized institutions and participated in numerous sculpture symposia in Quebec and abroad: Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, France, Chile, Korea, In Guatemala.
His major accomplishments include the Desjardins monument at the headquarters of the Fédération Desjardins in Lévis and his copy installed since 2008 at the Promenade Desjardins in Quebec City. You can also see in Québec, CROSSED WITHOUT RETURN, located in the cemetery of the General Hospital.
Two of his public works are in the Montreal metropolis; TRIBUTE TO THE ARTISTS, bronzes made for the National Monument, and DANCE ON THE WORLD installed in the cemetery Mount Royal in the children's section. Most recently, following an order, she has installed one of her monumental works, ATIGRAVIDAD. Made of granite and bronze it is installed permanently in the city of Guatemala.

ARTISTIC APPROACH

My artistic approach focuses mainly on the representation of the human body. Through the emergence of forms, I seek to express the duality between reason and the emotions that animate the deep nature of the human being. Thus, the image of the body is grasped and grasped in order to uncover the physical and mental tensions generated by a multitude of personal states. From the order of intimacy and feelings, this approach to the body tends to reveal certain facets of the complexity of the human being in his contribution and his relation to the social body.
My corpus of works includes several three-dimensional realizations of portraits and busts. In my work of sculpture and installation, my characters often present themselves in an arrangement of fragments of bodies or integrally sculpted in the mass. Executed mainly in round bump by the technique of the direct size; They impose themselves on foot, life size, oversized or on a reduced scale.
I approach the representation of the human body by placing it in an environment that I build by associating various sculptural elements that make up a coherent whole. More abstract monolithic forms can be integrated into the composition, contrasting with the figurative elements.
The rendering of the bodies is often presented by the encounter between smooth and soft surfaces and a sharp and hatched treatment of the material. I developed this technique related to that of the sketch in order to inscribe a gestural spontaneity that makes the matter alive. This way of doing things aims to emphasize the traces that life imprints on the body.
In this regard, I attach particular importance to expressiveness, hand and face rendering, and details such as skin folds and scars.

TEXT OF PRESENTATION OF THE ARTIST

The work of Pascale Archambault reminds us of the eternal foundations of sculpture ...
... by the elementary, impenetrable, mysterious matter which impassively bears the gravity of heaven and earth, and which resists to reveal its being to men; By the art of sculpture, at once brutal and delicate, that of transforming matter into form, sign, language, and communication; By the creative artist, who thinks and expresses himself with this language of rough and irrevocable sensuality - a concretization of such important questions about the human condition in these times of virtual unreality, technological marvels and unspeakable violence.
The work of Pascale Archambault samples his intimate side of the artist and the secrets of his craft: the elements and the grammar of his sculptural thought, the acidic and ironic jokes of his images, the conceptual and poetic subtleties of his stony and irrevocable language.
The atmosphere that detaches itself from the whole of his work evokes as much the workshop of the artisan filled with fragments and elementary and surprising mechanisms that the laboratory of the erudite and refined thinker.
The delicate and touching works present themselves as the dazzling result of fragments of bodies, words, facts, thoughts and judgments, which in one way or another force the viewer to overcome the spiritual absurdity of his Presence and urge him to reconstruct the history of which the work is a part.
At the precise moment when we participate in the creation - sensitized by the example of Pascale Archambault, the ancient art she practices recovers the mysterious, deep and noble power of the original material.
